Bio: Robert Cessna moved to Bryan-College Station from Pennsylvania in the fall of 1974 under the government witness protection plan.

Better known to his friends as "Cease," Cessna graduated from Shannock Valley High School in Rural Valley, Pa. He ranked 20th in a class of 82, but the last 40 people in the class were absent Florida voters.

Cease graduated from Indiana University of Pa. in 1974 with a degree in European history and a minor in economics. IUP? Yes, the big rival of Slippery Rock.

Cease came to Texas to take journalism classes, but immediately started working for The Eagle. He was hired fulltime in Feb. 1975, and has been there ever since. He turned down offers from papers in Bedias and Kurten, wanting to stay away from metro areas.

Cessna started dabbling in radio very early in his career, thanks to the Godfather of Radio, Chip Howard. He broadcasted just about every high school sport, even baseball.

Cease played baseball in high school, and also played semi-pro baseball in the summer while he went to IUP. However, the inability to hit the curve, the fastball, the change-up and the slider put a damper on that career choice.

Cessna played softball in B-CS for two decades, playing in the state tournament annually. He also umpired during that time, showing fans that he could make just as bad of calls on the bases and behind the plate as he could on the radio or in his column.

One of Bryan-College Station’s most eligible bachelors left the single scene, much to the chagrin of two or three women, when he married Jessica Bryant 21 years ago. They have three children: Kassie, Kimmie and Randy, along with a second generation of dogs. Kassie is a freshman at A&M, having graduated high school a half year early. She is changing the world daily. Kimmie is 14 and Randy is 11, both straight A students, who take after the milkman.

Buddy Cessna, the family's male dog, is famous for picking football games, following in the footsteps of Rocky Cessna, who graced The Eagle for 10 years before going to Doggie Heaven.

Cessna has stumbled into a few awards in his time: high school writer of the year by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. High school writer of the year by the Texas High School Coaches Association. It was probably cases of mistaken identities, but Cessna kept the swag and recognition.

Robert Cessna will be inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame in May along with names like Art Briles, Branndon Stewart and Joe Henderson. It's a little strange working with a Hall of Famer but he's handling the success well.

Cessna hopes to one day get a real job like dealing blackjack, calling radio stations to pester talk show hosts, or writing letters to the editor.

In the meantime, you can read Robert Cessna daily in the sports section of the Bryan-College Station Eagle. You can also listen to his how, The Front Page, every Saturday from 10am-12pm on SportsRadio 1150, The Zone.
